Escape from Tarkov Barter Items: Keep, Sell or Trade

Half the junk in your bag is a currency. Which barter items to keep for upgrades, which the flea market wants, and which are genuinely worthless.

The three prices

Every barter item has a trader price, a flea price, and a utility price — what it saves you by being kept. The utility price is invisible in the interface and it is the only one that matters for items on an upgrade list. So the question is never “what is this worth”. It is “do I need this for something specific in the next week”. If yes, keep it regardless of price. If no, sell to whoever pays most.

Keep these

Hideout upgrade components. Every module lists items, and those lists are long. Check the module you are working toward and pull those items out of the sell pile. Quest items. A quest that needs two of something will not accept them from the flea if it wants found-in-raid, so the ones you found are worth more than their price — see the quest items page. Barter trade inputs. Some traders exchange a stack of junk for ammunition or gear that is otherwise locked behind loyalty level. That exchange is often the cheapest way to get good rounds early.

Sell these

Duplicates beyond the requirement. Six of an item when the module wants two is four items to sell. Food and drink in bulk. Nobody needs twenty of them, and they take cells that better loot could use — the loot page covers value per cell. Anything with a flea price far above its trader price once you no longer need it. That is a straight arbitrage and it is what funds the next kit.

The timing problem

Flea prices for barter items move with the wipe. Early on, everyone needs the same upgrade components and prices spike. Later, supply exceeds demand and they collapse. That means the same item is a hold early and a sell late, and the player who checks prices before dumping a bag earns considerably more.

The two-minute habit

Before selling a bag, sort by name and check each unfamiliar item against your current module requirements. The items you keep are the ones with a utility price. Everything else goes to the trader or the market based on which pays more — and the money page explains why that choice matters less than surviving the raid did.
