Escape from Tarkov Quest Items: Keep or Sell
Quest items are only valuable while the quest is open, and found-in-raid rules mean you cannot buy replacements. How to avoid both mistakes.
The rule that decides it
A quest item is worth its flea price only if you are not going to need it. Once you are on the quest, it is worth a raid you do not have to repeat, and repeat raids are the most expensive thing in the game. So: check the quest log before every sale. Not the wiki, not a list from six months ago — your own log, because the requirement is only real when the quest is open.
Found in raid changes everything
Quests that require found-in-raid items cannot be completed with purchases. That means the item you looted has a value equal to the raid you would otherwise have to run, which is usually far more than its market price. This is why experienced players keep a mental list of the found-in-raid items that appear in multiple quests and never sell them without checking twice.
The patterns worth knowing
Items required more than once. Some items appear in a quest, then in a hideout upgrade, then in a later quest. These are worth keeping on sight. Items only obtainable in specific places. If an item spawns in one building on one map, its utility price is high even if its flea price is low, because farming it is expensive. Items that are also barter inputs. A component that both completes a quest and feeds a trader exchange has two utility prices stacked on it.
When to sell
Sell when the quest is done, when you have more than the requirement, or when the item is available cheaply on the flea and the quest does not demand found-in-raid. In those cases the rouble value is real and the utility value is not. The barter page covers the overlap between quest items and trade goods, and the stash page covers how to store the ones you keep without losing them in the clutter.
The habit
Before every session, read your active quest list and note the items it names. Ten minutes of reading saves hours of re-farming, and it turns looting from a value judgement into a checklist — which is exactly what it should be when you are new.
