Escape from Tarkov Extracts: Every Rule That Blocks You

Green flares, car extracts, co-op exits and map transit each carry a condition. Why your extract is greyed out and what it costs to open it.

The standard ones

Every map has free extracts, usually one or two per side of the map, and they are selected at raid start based on your spawn. You cannot pick freely — the game decides which of the pair you are eligible for, and that decision shapes your whole route.

Green flare extracts

Some extracts require a signal. You fire a green flare inside the marked zone and the extract opens for a window. Fire it outside the zone and nothing happens; fire it too early and the window closes before you arrive. Carry a green flare on any map where this extract is your likely exit, because without it the extract simply does not exist for you.

Car extracts

Car extracts cost money and are one-use per raid. They also interact with your scav reputation, so a car extract is a reputation purchase as much as a convenience. If you are rebuilding Fence reputation, use them; if you are maxed and farming money, walk instead.

Co-op extracts

These require a player scav and a PMC to extract together, which means they are not available to a solo PMC unless a scav happens to be cooperating. They exist to reward the scav-PMC truce that the karma system encourages, and they are the cheapest extract on the map when they work.

Transit

Tarkov 1.0 added map-to-map transit: at specific points you can leave one map and enter another in the same raid, keeping your gear and continuing. Transit is not an extraction — your raid does not end, and the timer resets to the new map’s clock. It is the fastest way to move loot across the map network, and it is also the fastest way to arrive somewhere with no idea where the extracts are.

No-backpack and timed extracts

Some exits will not take your backpack, and some are only open for part of the raid. Both are route-planning constraints rather than surprises if you read the extract list before you move. The keys page is the other half of route planning: a shortcut door changes which extract is actually closest.

The habit that fixes most of this

Open the map screen at raid start, read which extracts you have, and pick the route backwards from the exit. The starter map order covers which maps to learn first, and every one of them is easier once you know where you are allowed to leave.
