Tarkov PvP vs PvE vs Seasonal: Which Profile to Play

Patch 1.1.0.0 reorganized how Tarkov accounts are structured. Where there used to be a persistent main and a PvE toggle, there are now three distinct profiles, and knowing which one you are in decides what happens to your progress.

Permanent PvP

This is your existing PvP character. The Kord Breach season does not touch it. Your stash, level, quests, hideout, and trader standings all persist exactly as they were. If you want to keep what you have built, this is the profile you play.

PvE

The PvE profile is also untouched by the season. Importantly, there is no PvE seasonal mode — Battlestate confirmed one is not coming with Kord Breach. If you prefer the PvE experience, your progression is simply permanent, with no seasonal fresh start available.

Seasonal PvP (Kord Breach)

This is the opt-in fresh start. It is a separate character on separate servers that begins from zero, plays under the season’s ruleset, and resets every four to six months. It is the only profile affected by Global and Personal modifiers, and the only one where insurance is disabled.

How to choose

Play your permanent PvP or PvE profile if your goal is to keep progressing the character you have. Play the seasonal queue if you want the fresh-start challenge, the seasonal Battle Pass, and the seasonal rewards. Patch 1.1.0.0 also added a dedicated game mode selection screen at launch, so switching between these profiles is a menu action rather than a separate client or account. You no longer need to remember which character is which — the screen shows it. The seasonal character page details the insurance and economy rules of that queue, and the Prestige reset page explains the other voluntary way to start a character over. The Kord Breach overview ties the three together.
