Hunt Showdown Boss Timing: Banish or Walk Away
Starting a banish tells the whole server where you are. When the bounty is worth holding, and when the correct play is to leave it for someone else.
What a banish does
It converts a private fight into a public event. The banishing compound becomes the most valuable place on the map, and every team that was undecided now has a destination. So the question is not “should we banish” but “are we the squad best positioned to survive the consequence”.
When to banish
You control the compound. Doors watched, angles held, and nobody is unaccounted for. A lair you hold is worth defending. You have health and chunks left. Banishing restores health to the team, which is part of why it is worth doing — but a squad that is already on one chunk each will not survive the arrival. You want the fight. Banishing is how you invite one. If the squad is strong and the server feels quiet, this is the correct aggression.
When to walk away
You are the weakest squad on the map. If two other teams are alive and both are better equipped, the bounty is a trap you are setting for yourself. The compound is indefensible. A lair with too many entrances cannot be held by two or three players, and the banish timer is long enough for someone to exploit every one of them. You are being watched. If you have heard another team since arriving, they know you are here, and the banish will simply tell them when to come. Leaving is not cowardice — it is the same expected-value calculation as every other decision in the mode, and it is what the PvP page is built on.
The middle option
You can start a banish and leave. The noise draws teams to a compound you are no longer in, which is a free distraction and costs you only the time. It is the play that most annoys other squads and it is entirely legitimate. Use it when you want the lobby to look the wrong way while you do something else — a clue route or a quiet exit.
The exit decision
If you do take the token, decide the exit before picking it up. The carrier is visible through Dark Sight, so the extraction is a route you have already chosen, not a problem you solve while holding a beacon. The extraction page covers the mechanics, and the boss page covers the fight that precedes this decision.
