Hunt Showdown Boss Lair: Fighting the Boss With Company
The boss fight is easy until another team arrives. How to kill fast, listen while you do it, and avoid the trap of committing to the kill.
The real constraint
A boss has phases and takes time. During that time your squad is:
- making noise,
- in a known location,
- looking at the boss rather than the doors. Three things that are individually fine and collectively the reason boss fights get interrupted by shotguns.
How to kill faster
Bring the right damage. Melee weapons and heavy-hitting guns shorten the fight; a slow-firing weapon with small magazines doubles it. Split roles. One player damages, one keeps watching the entrances. This feels inefficient and it is what stops the fight becoming an ambush. Use the phases. Bosses commit to attacks with recovery windows; those are the damage windows. Trading damage while it is mid-attack costs health you need for the players who are coming.
Listening while fighting
The boss is loud, which means your ability to hear footsteps is reduced exactly when it matters most. Two habits compensate: Check the entrances between phases, not during them. Watch for the dog, the birds, anything in the periphery. Visual traps still work while you are fighting; auditory ones do not.
When to abort
If another team arrives, you have three options and only one of them is a fight. Fight them. Correct if you have health, chunks, and a defensible position. Leave the boss. Correct if you are damaged or outnumbered. The boss will still be there, and the other team now has to do the work while you watch. Let them have it and shadow them. The most underused option: let them kill the boss, then hit them during the banish when they are committed and you know exactly where they are. That is the logic the boss timing page is built on. Committing to a kill while a fight develops is how squads lose both the boss and the raid. Decide which one you are doing before you enter, and say it out loud โ the team comms page covers the call.
