Hunt Showdown Compound Defense: Holding the Lair
Once the banish starts you are defending a building with too many doors. Which angles matter, when to give up the bounty, and how teams die inside.
The problem
Compounds have multiple entrances, interior floors, and windows. A squad of three cannot watch them all, so the default outcome of “spread out and watch doors” is that somebody gets shot through a window nobody was covering. The solution is not more angles. It is fewer.
Pick a room, not a building
Choose one interior room with a small number of approaches, and hold that. You give up the rest of the compound, which feels wrong and is correct: a room you can cover completely is worth more than a building you cannot. Then the rule is simple — nobody leaves the room to chase. Whoever enters is entering a space where three players are already aiming.
The angles that actually get used
The main stairs or ladder. Vertical entries are the most common approach because they are the fastest. Watch them first. The window with the best view of the banish point. Attackers want sight of the objective; that window is where they will aim from. The ground-floor door nearest the extraction route. It is the way in for a player who wants to leave with the token, which makes it the way in for a player who wants to take it.
When to give up the bounty
The token is worth money and it is not worth the squad. If you are down to one player with no chunks, or the attackers have taken the room, the correct move is to drop the plan and run. Hunt is unusual in that the bounty is not the only win. Surviving to extract with loot is still a raid that paid, and a dead squad paid nothing. That judgment is the same one the PvP page makes about fights you did not choose.
The mistake that loses compounds
Chasing a wounded attacker outside. It is the single most common way a good defence collapses: one player steps out, dies in the open, and now the room has a hole and the squad has a body it cannot reach. Let them come in. The whole value of a defended position is that you are not moving and they are. The compound guide covers reading a building’s entrances, which is what this decision is based on.
