How to Kill Scrapbeak in Hunt: Showdown

Scrapbeak's shrapnel multiplier, why explosives cost you his loot drops, and how to fight him without starving your own supplies.

Damage types: lead with shrapnel

The numbers make the choice clear:

  • Shrapnel: x3 — his strongest answer.
  • Explosive ammunition (blast rounds): x2 — very good.
  • Flechette shells: x1.6 — the standout shotgun pick.
  • Poison bullets: x1.5, poison bolts: x2 — solid, and the option most guides recommend.
  • Stabbing melee: x1.4 — unusually good for a melee option here.
  • Penny shot: x0.56 and slashing/blunt melee: x0.7 — the bad answers. Leave penny shot at home.
  • Thrown explosives: x0.8 — no bonus, and they cause the loot problem below. Note he is immune to his own concertina wire, which is convenient for him and not for you: he deploys it to control doorways while taking nothing from it himself.

The supply trade-off that defines this fight

Here is the mechanic worth knowing before you commit. There are no usable world supplies near his lair, and he drops gear — ammunition, health, tools — as you damage him. But fire and explosive damage destroy the items he drops, permanently. So you are choosing between two plans:

  • Fast kill: explosives and fire, accepting you get nothing from him.
  • Supply run: precision damage — shrapnel, flechette, poison, stabbing melee — so you leave the fight stocked for the players who heard your gunfire. When your team is already low on healing or ammunition, preserving his drops is worth far more than the seconds you save. He also reliably drops a melee weapon when he frenzies, which conveniently feeds the melee plan.

Practical notes

Fight him from doorways solo so you can retreat from his charges — he is too large to come through quickly — and burn or otherwise clear his wire so you do not get trapped in a room with him. Whether you are here for a fast kill or a supply run is a loadout decision you make before drop, not midway through it — the loadouts and traits save guide covers building for that choice. In a team, one player baits while others fire from windows. Everything here still happens under third-party pressure; see positioning mistakes for why the room choice matters as much as the damage type. Multipliers are community-measured and move with patches — confirm in-game.
