Hunt: Showdown Dark Sight and Boost Explained

Dark Sight reads clues through walls. Dark Sight Boost reveals hunters for a few seconds, and you earn it by doing the thing that also makes noise.

Dark Sight: the objective reader

Hold the key and the world desaturates while clues, boss lairs and relevant structures glow through walls. It is a navigation tool with no cost and no duration — you can use it as often as you like. The habit that matters: use it before entering a compound, not inside one. From outside you learn where the clue is, whether the lair is occupied by a boss, and which walls are worth moving around. Inside a fight you should be looking at doors.

Dark Sight Boost: the hunter reader

Boost is a limited pool of seconds, spent while active, and it reveals nearby hunters as glowing silhouettes through terrain. It is the only wallhack in the game and it is the reason a bounty token is worth fighting for. You earn boost by picking up clues and by picking up bounty tokens. Both are actions that put you in a compound, both take time, and both are audible. The resource that lets you see other players is paid for by telling other players where you are.

How to spend it

Do not spend boost on approach. The value is in the last thirty seconds: you have the token, you are inside a lair, and a team is outside. Boost tells you which door they are stacking at and whether the silhouette count matches what you heard. It is also the answer to the burning question. If a teammate is down and burning, boost tells you whether the player who lit them is still watching. Without it you are guessing, and guessing into a lantern is how squads die one at a time.

Boost and sound together

Boost has a short range, so it answers “is someone close” rather than “where is everyone”. That is what your ears are for. The audio page covers the cues that carry further than boost reaches, and the combination — ears for the map, boost for the room — is the information model the game is built around.

The trait interaction

Traits that alter Dark Sight work on the boost side, extending range or duration depending on which one you take. If you play solo, boost is worth more than any damage trait, because it is the only way to know how many players are on the other side of a wall. The trait rankings put it in context against the rest of the tree.
