Hunt Showdown Burning: Why Downed Hunters Lose Bars

A downed hunter can be burned, and every burn takes a permanent health chunk. How fire pressure forces a team to move.

Death is not the real cost

When a hunter goes down, the loss is temporary: a teammate can revive them. What makes a down permanent is fire. A burning body loses health chunks, and those chunks do not come back until the hunter is revived at a resupply point or the boss is banished. So the threat is not the down. The threat is the eight seconds you spend deciding whether to push.

How burning starts

Any fire source applied to a downed hunter starts the process: a lantern thrown onto the body, a fire bomb, the burning ground of a compound fire. The body does not need to be in a fire to start - it needs to catch once. Once alight, the timer runs. Every tick burns a chunk, and a full burn removes the hunter from the match even if nobody touches them again.

What a burn actually forces

It converts a static fight into a clock. The attacking team wants the defending team to come out, and a burning body is the cheapest way to make that happen. The defending team has to either fight now or lose a teammate’s health permanently. This is why experienced trios keep a choke bomb in the kit. Choking a burning body extinguishes it, buying back the decision.

Choke bombs are the counter

A choke bomb thrown on a downed teammate puts out the fire and creates a cloud that blocks sight. That gets you two things at once: the burn stops and the enemy loses the line they were holding. Carrying at least one per team is close to mandatory at higher ranks, and burning a body is much weaker when the other side can put it out.

Burning to force a fight, and burning to deny

Burning is not only for pressure. If you down a hunter in an exposed spot and cannot hold the body, burning denies the revive while you reposition. If you can hold the body, burning is a trap: the revive attempt walks into your crosshair. The distinction matters because burning commits you to staying nearby. A burn you do not cover is a free chunk for the enemy team’s stats and nothing else.

What to do when you are the one burning

Move. A burning teammate means the enemy knows exactly where the fight is, and standing still next to the smoke is the most predictable thing you can do. Revive only when the fire is out and the sightline is broken.
