Hunt Showdown Trials: The Cheapest Way to Practise Aim
Trials are scored solo challenges with fixed setups and rewards. What they teach, what they pay, and why they beat losing kits to learn.
What they are
Fixed challenges with a score target. You are dropped into a controlled setup — a compound, a set of enemies, a specific weapon — and asked to hit a threshold or a time. Performance is scored, and scores are ranked. The important part is what they are not: there is no other player hunting you, and dying costs nothing. That makes Trials the only low-stakes environment in a game built around permanent loss.
What they actually teach
Weapon behaviour. Recoil, cycle time, and where a shot lands at distance, all learned on a stationary target rather than in a firefight you were losing anyway. That knowledge transfers directly. Boss damage. Trials that involve the bosses teach the PvE side properly — which attacks you can dodge, which phases punish greed, and how long a kill actually takes. Movement. The traversal verbs — vaulting, climbing, moving through a compound quietly — are all in Trials, and they are the skills that decide whether you arrive at a fight in a good position.
What they pay
Completion thresholds pay out, which makes Trials a small but genuinely risk-free income stream. For a player whose balance is too low to buy a kit they can afford to lose, this is the alternative to going broke in Bounty Hunt. It is not the best money in the game. It is the only money with no downside risk, and for a new player that is often more valuable than a larger payout that requires surviving.
How to use them
Pick the challenge that matches your weakest skill, not the one with the highest payout. If you die to close-range fights, run a close-range trial until the cycle time of the weapon is second nature. If you die at range, run a distance trial until the lead and drop are instinct. That is also the answer to “how do I get better at Hunt without dying”: you practise the mechanical half in Trials and the decision half in matches. The bullet drop page covers the ballistic side that Trials will expose quickly.
Their limit
Trials cannot teach the thing that actually kills players: reading information. There are no other teams, no traps triggered by someone else, no third party arriving at the wrong moment. For that, you need Bounty Hunt and the PvP habits. Use them as a warm-up, not as a substitute. Fifteen minutes of Trials before a session is the difference between a first match spent shaking off rust and one spent playing.
