KCD2 Hans Capon Romance: Heart Options and Final Kiss
Hans Capon's romance runs on heart dialogue in Back in the Saddle, Taking French Leave, The Italian Job and Hunger and Despair. It locks Katherine's scene.
The four heart moments
Back in the Saddle — After you rescue Hans from the Trosky gallows in For Whom the Bell Tolls, talk to him. When prompted, choose the caring option (“I care about you”) to plant the first flag. Taking French Leave — After you rescue Hans from the castle, speak with him about escaping through the passage. Choose “We’ll manage together” to advance the bond. The Italian Job — This one is easy to miss and it sits after a Kuttenberg point of no return, so be ready. After you secure the minting area, you are told to speak with Jan Zizka on the battlements. Before you do, find Hans nearby and talk to him first — speaking to Zizka pushes the quest forward. Pick “We spend too little time together” and then “I’m more concerned about you.” Later, at the end of the quest in the crypt, find Hans again and choose “I care about you.” Hunger and Despair — The finale. Before Henry is sent away from Suchdol, visit Hans in his room. When he tells the story of the two knights, answer “We have a lot in common with them,” then choose to kiss him. That finishes the romance.
The exclusivity trap
Hans’s final scene is mutually exclusive with Katherine’s. If you commit to Hans in Hunger and Despair, Katherine’s intimate option that playthrough is gone, and vice versa — see the Katherine romance page. Earlier flirting with Katherine is not the same as the final commitment, so you can keep both routes warm until that last choice. Hans’s route is also compatible with Rosa, so taking Rosa does not block Hans.
Why it is easy to break
The game keeps no romance log, so if you skip a required heart response there is no way to see which one you missed — the ending scene simply will not trigger. The safe habit is to always pick the heart-marked option whenever it appears, and to save before Hunger and Despair so you can choose Hans or Katherine deliberately.
Where Hans fits overall
He is one of many options in the romance overview, but he is the only one that directly competes with Katherine for the ending. Plan that final choice before you reach the siege.
