KCD2 Katherine Romance: Fifth Commandment to Final Choice

Step 1 — The Fifth Commandment (Kuttenberg)

After you reach Kuttenberg, Katherine works at a local inn and gives you The Fifth Commandment, a serial-killer investigation. The quest starts at the Hangman’s Halter Tavern. How you end it does not block the romance — you can hand the culprit to the bailiff or let Katherine take vigilante justice. Letting her kill him raises your reputation with her, which is the smoother path. The important part is simply finishing the quest while she is still in the city. Players who postpone it until after Taking French Leave often find she has moved and the route is closed.

Step 2 — The Stalker (during The Lion’s Den)

The Stalker is the second Katherine quest and it has a deadline buried inside a main quest. She is undercover as a bathhouse maid in Sigismund’s Camp and has attracted a stalker. You must resolve this during The Lion’s Den — once that quest ends, the opportunity is gone. The easy route is the Houndmaster speech check: say “Mutt will track him down” and she gives you her shoe for Mutt to follow to the villain’s tent. If Mutt is not with you, wait by her tent at night for the stalker to appear. Then get him to leave via a speech or intimidation check, a 200 Groschen bribe, or by beating him. Because The Stalker lives at Sigismund’s Camp, it is also on the Kuttenberg missable list — Oratores deletes the camp, so finish it first.

Step 3 — The final scene (Hunger and Despair)

Near the end, during Hunger and Despair, Katherine approaches Henry at the wall if you have kept her quests done. Choosing her here is mutually exclusive with Hans Capon’s final scene — see the Hans romance page for his route. If you commit to Katherine, Hans’s ending kiss is no longer available that playthrough. Earlier flirting with Hans does not override this; only the final choice matters.

The bath scene and the siege visit

A later shared bath scene with Katherine requires high Eloquence to navigate, so invest in Scholarship and speech checks. If you have kept your reputation with her strong, she also visits Henry during the siege of Suchdol for an intimate scene, a nice payoff that confirms the relationship carried.
