Monster Hunter Wilds Item Pouch: Loadouts That Save Hunts
The pouch is where hunts are actually lost. What to carry as standard, and how to build presets per monster.
The pouch is a build
Players spend hours on armour skills and minutes on the item pouch, then lose hunts because they ran out of healing or brought the wrong trap. The pouch is not inventory, it is the second half of the build.
The right pouch answers the question: what will this monster do to me, and what do I need to survive it?
The standard core
Healing items at two tiers, an antidote or a status cure appropriate to the region, traps of both types, tranquiliser ammunition, a whetstone or equivalent, and a farcaster to return to camp quickly.
That core covers ninety percent of hunts. The variations come from what the specific monster does.
Monster-specific additions
Against a monster with a punishing status effect, bring the cure and consider resistance decoration. Against a monster that spends time airborne, bring the tools that reach it. Against a monster that poisons, bring both the cure and more of it than you think you need.
Bag space is the constraint. Every additional item type displaces something else, so the decision is a trade rather than a top-up.
Presets solve the memory problem
The game lets you save item loadouts and bind them to equipment loadouts. Building one preset per monster family takes an afternoon and removes the pre-hunt scramble permanently.
That is the single highest-value preparation habit in the game, because it converts a decision you make under time pressure into a decision you already made.
What to leave at camp
You do not need to carry everything. The camp supply box can hold extra materials, and returning to camp mid-hunt is cheaper than carting because you were over-encumbered or out of space.
The exception is anything you need in the middle of a fight. Those items belong on the pouch, not in the box.
Reading the pouch mid-hunt
Check consumables between areas, not during a fight. The moment you notice you are out of healing is usually the moment you needed it, and the pause to check is a pause that gets you hit.
