Phasmophobia Ghost Writing: Book Setup and Timing
Ghost Writing needs a book left alone in the favourite room and a little patience. Where to place it, how long to wait. Hovering over it wastes sanity.
Ghost Writing is the evidence that rewards setup over watching. You drop a book, leave the room, and check back later — the ghost writes a message when it feels like it, and hovering over the book only drains your sanity without speeding it up.
What counts
A written message inside the Ghost Writing Book placed in the favorite room confirms the evidence. An untouched book confirms nothing.
Which ghosts write
Thirteen ghosts have Ghost Writing: Aswang, Deildegast, Demon, Deogen, Mare, Moroi, Myling, Obambo, Poltergeist, Revenant, Shade, Spirit, and Thaye. The evidence cheat sheet lists them all.
How to place and use it
- Set the book down inside the favorite room, ideally near the center or a spot the ghost frequents.
- Leave the room. The ghost is more likely to interact when no one is standing over it, and you save sanity by not staring.
- Check back after other evidence work. Writing can take a while, so do not write the ghost off after thirty seconds.
- If the ghost moves rooms, relocate the book — writing only happens where the ghost actually is.
Timing and patience
Writing is one of the slower evidences, which is why teams that rush it get false negatives. Pair the book with passive evidence like a video camera for orbs and a D.O.T.S. projector so the room keeps generating clues while you are elsewhere. Come back after a hunt or a big interaction — activity often coincides with a writing tick.
Common mistakes
Watching the book instead of leaving. Placing it in the wrong room. And picking it up too early to move it, which resets any progress. On reduced-evidence difficulties a blank book is especially misleading, so treat missing writing as unknown, not as proof — see the difficulty breakdown. For how writing narrows the roster alongside EMF 5 and Freezing Temperatures, the identification order guide walks the sequence.
