One of the most searched Phasmophobia questions is also one of the most confusing to answer, because the number depends entirely on when the guide you found was written. You will see “24 ghosts,” “27 ghosts,” “28 ghosts,” and “29 ghosts” across the web, and all of them were correct at some point. As of October 2026, the correct answer is 30 ghost types.

Why the number keeps changing

Phasmophobia has added ghosts in waves since launch, and most published counts froze at whatever the roster was when that article was written. The key update points:

• 27 — the roster after the Winter’s Jest update in December 2025, which added Obambo, Gallu, and Dayan.
• 28 / 29 — the window around version 0.18 (July 21, 2026), when the 13 Willow Street rework shipped the Deildegast ghost.
• 30 — the current total as of late 2026, after the two most recent ghosts (per October 2026 sources, Aswang and Kormos) joined the roster.

The list is also still growing toward the 1.0 launch, so the safest authority is always the in-game journal, which updates with every patch.

The seven evidence types, not the ghost count, are what matters

Every one of the 30 ghosts is defined by a unique combination of three of the seven evidence types: EMF Level 5, Spirit Box, Ultraviolet, Freezing Temperatures, Ghost Orbs, Ghost Writing, and D.O.T.S. Projector. The Mimic is the one exception — it shows a fourth, fake clue (Ghost Orbs) on top of its real three. Because the journal auto-eliminates impossible ghosts as you tick evidence, the exact roster size matters less than knowing your three clues.
