Space Marine 2 Mutalith Vortex Beast: The Vortex Boss

The Mutalith ends Operation Vortex, and the arena is built around its warp attacks. How to read a boss that denies ground instead of chasing.

What kind of fight it is

A large Chaos creature with warp effects around it. The dangerous part is not a melee combo you can parry; it is area damage that turns parts of the arena into places you cannot stand. That makes it a movement fight. Against the Hive Tyrant you dodge a charge and punish the recovery. Here you are constantly relocating, and the damage window appears when the boss commits to an attack big enough to leave it exposed.

The three habits

Keep the arena behind you, not around you. Retreating into a corner removes your ability to move, and this fight is entirely about movement. Always know which direction you can step. Clear the adds between phases. Chaos missions spawn infantry throughout, and Rubric Marines shooting from an angle nobody is covering will kill a squad that is focused on the boss. Do not stand in the effect. Warp areas are visible and persistent. The instinct to keep firing from a good position is exactly what gets players killed here — the ground is the attack.

Squad composition

This is a mission where ranged classes do the work and melee classes struggle, because the boss does not offer a parry target in the way a Tyranid Majoris does. Heavy and Sniper do the damage; Bulwark keeps the squad upright; Assault has the least to do. That is worth knowing before you queue, because the class lock means you cannot fix it in the lobby. The class overview covers the alternatives.

The mission before the boss

Vortex runs through the Astropathic Relay, which means tight interiors and Thousand Sons resistance. Arriving at the boss with damaged armour is normal, and it is also the reason the fight fails — a squad on two segments each cannot survive the movement phase. So the practical advice is about the route: clear the approach without trading damage, save grenades for the arena rather than for corridors, and treat the boss as the point where resources matter. The Operations list shows where this mission sits relative to the ones you should learn first.

Is it worth farming

Not particularly. The fight is long and the arena is unforgiving, so the Requisition per hour is worse than a clean Decapitation or Inferno run. Run it for the clear, not for the economy — the difficulty page covers what each tier pays, and the Siege mode is the better answer if the goal is rewards.
