Space Marine 2 Operations Difficulty: All 6 Tiers
The six Operations difficulty tiers in Space Marine 2, what scales at each, and how Lethal and Absolute change the fight.
Operations is the co-op PvE mode in Space Marine 2, separate from the Campaign. It runs on a six-rung difficulty ladder: Minimal, Average, Substantial, Ruthless, Lethal, and Absolute. The tier you pick changes almost every number in the fight, so it is worth knowing what actually scales before you queue.
The one constant
No matter the difficulty, when you respawn you come back with 40% less health. Dying twice in a row is a real threat on the high tiers, which is why positioning and not over-extending matters more than damage output.
What scales up
- Enemy health and aggression climb every tier. By Ruthless and above, Majoris and Extremis enemies stop being things you wade through and start being things that delete a squad.
- Grenade damage to enemies rises, which is the game nudging you toward coordinated utility rather than raw gunplay.
What scales down
- Your max health, armor segment size, and Medicae Stimm healing all drop as you go up. A stimm that barely saves you on Substantial can be useless on Absolute.
- Respawn time grows, so a downed brother is gone longer.
- At the higher tiers, your first Incapacitation already inflicts a Mortal Wound, meaning one mistake can end the run instead of just costing a revive.
Reading the ladder
- Minimal / Average — story-friendly. Enemies are less aggressive and your health and armor are padded. Fine for learning an operation’s layout.
- Substantial / Ruthless — the intended experience. Enemies are formidable, resources must be managed, and a Mortal Wound appears in the mix. This is where most squads settle.
- Lethal / Absolute — hardcore. Introduces serious challenge, recovery after a mistake is much harder, and the margin for error is gone. Absolute is the ceiling and has its own deep-dive on the Absolute difficulty page.
Practical pick
A competent trio should treat Substantial as the baseline and move to Ruthless once the routine is comfortable. Lethal and Absolute are for Prestige farming and challenge runs, not for first clears. The operations list shows what you will be running, and the best class for beginners helps you slot into a squad that covers all three roles.
