Space Marine 2 Operations Guide: Missions, Classes, Rewards

How Space Marine 2 Operations work: the 13 missions, the one-class-per-squad rule, all six difficulties, and where class XP and Armoury Data come from.

What the mode actually is

Each Operation is a short, dense mission — a handful of objectives (hold a point, escort an asset, sabotage infrastructure, survive waves) wrapped around Tyranid or Chaos resistance. Enemy spawns are semi-randomised, so you learn patterns rather than exact timings. The squad is up to three players, with bots filling any empty slot, and a solo run is viable on the lower difficulties.

The thirteen missions

As of Patch 14 (the Confrontation Update), there are 13 Operations. The clean starters are Inferno (Kadaku, Tyranids, simple route), Decapitation (Kadaku, ends on the Hive Tyrant), and Ballistic Engine (Avarax, vehicle and defence beats). The Chaos-heavy missions — Reliquary, Fall of Atreus, Obelisk, Vortex, Disruption, Purgation, and Vox Liberatis — punish bad spacing because ranged heretics drain armour from angles nobody is watching.

One of each class

Operations allow only one player per class in a squad. Two people cannot both queue as Heavy. That rule is why you should keep a second class levelled: if your main is taken, you still have a role. The safest public core is Tactical plus Bulwark, then a third pick that covers what the mission throws — Heavy for lane control, Sniper for elite deletion, or Techmarine for area denial. See which class to bring for the full role list.

Difficulty and rewards

Six difficulties run from Minimal to Absolute. What changes is not enemy count alone but armour economy: each armour segment absorbs less damage as you climb, and enemies hit harder. Rewards scale the same way — class XP, weapon XP, Requisition, Armoury Data, armour unlocks, and difficulty cosmetics. Operations progress needs an online connection if you want perks, skins, and rewards to carry into your next session.

What to do on a first run

Move through cover rather than down the middle, and clear the ranged Majoris before the melee swarm. Smash crates and take side paths for Armor Boosts and Medicae Stimms; a squad that skips them runs dry on the third wave. Carry a Gene-Seed only when the squad can protect the carrier to extraction — it occupies the same slot as a self-revive. For the resource side of the grind, see weapon upgrades and Prestige.
