Space Marine 2 Terminators: Killing the Armoured Wall

Scarab Occult Terminators ignore small arms and punish bad spacing. Why Melta and Krak matter here, and how to break a Terminator push.

Why they beat most squads

Small arms do very little to their armour. A squad that has built for clearing hordes discovers at the worst moment that it has no answer, and the fight becomes a slow loss while the Terminator walks through the damage. They also arrive with infantry, which means the squad is dealing with two problems and only one of them can be solved by shooting.

The answer

Melta. Close-range armour damage is the intended answer and the most efficient one. The range cost is real: you have to get close to a unit that hits hard. Krak grenades. A direct armour answer that does not require closing to melee, which makes it the safest contribution from a class without Melta. Concentrated fire. The roof of the armour is thinner than the front, in the sense that the fight rewards getting behind or above rather than trading at the front plate. Do not duel at range. A Terminator wins that exchange because your damage is too small and its damage is not.

The spacing problem

Terminators advance and the squad retreats, which is exactly the pattern that loses missions — the squad ends up in a corner with the horde behind it. So the correct response is not to back away but to break the push: use a chokepoint, let the Terminator come into a doorway, and put damage on it from an angle it cannot face. That is the same lateral thinking that the horde guide applies to crowds.

Which classes

Melta access decides it. If nobody in the squad has armour-piercing close-range damage, the correct move is to avoid the fight rather than feed it — a Terminator pack can simply be walked around on most maps. The weapons list shows which classes carry the answer, and the enemy guide places Terminators alongside the other Chaos units that demand the same tool.
