STALKER 2 Armor Repair: When It Is Worth It

Repair cost scales with the item's value and condition, which makes cheap suits cheap to fix and good suits ruinous. The rule that decides.

The rule

A cheap suit costs little to repair. An expensive suit costs a lot to repair, and the cost grows with how much durability is missing. That means the best armour in the game is also the most expensive to keep working, and a player who upgrades too early can end up unable to afford ammunition. The practical threshold: if repairing your suit costs more than a session’s income, the suit is too expensive for your current economy. Trade down, run something cheaper, and come back when loot funds it.

Where repairs happen

Technicians repair, and not every technician services every item type. Repairing is separate from upgrading, and the two are confused constantly — the technician page covers the difference and why an upgrade can be refused while a repair is available.

Condition and the death spiral

Durability drops with damage taken, and a suit at very low condition protects less. That creates a spiral: you take more damage because your armour is broken, and you need more repairs because you take more damage. Break the spiral by repairing before a dangerous trip rather than after. Arriving at a mutant den with 30% condition is how a routine fight becomes a reload.

Repair versus replace

Three questions decide it. Does the item have upgrades invested in it? If yes, repairing preserves that investment and replacing throws it away. Is the item the one you plan to keep for the rest of the game? If not, don’t repair it. Can you buy a replacement for less than two repairs? On early-game gear the answer is often yes.

The budget that works

Set aside a fixed amount per session for repairs and treat it as spent before you leave. Everything above that is profit. If the number keeps exceeding the budget, the kit is the problem, not the income — and the money page explains what an hour of artifact hunting actually pays.

The cheap-armour strategy

Experienced players often run mid-tier armour with good upgrades rather than top-tier armour with none. The mid-tier suit costs a fraction to repair, still carries enough artifact slots to be useful, and leaves budget for the thing that keeps you alive: ammunition and medical supplies. The armour page covers how slot count interacts with that decision.
