STALKER 2 Artifacts: Detection, Radiation and Value
Artifacts spawn in anomaly fields and most of them cost you radiation. Which properties are worth the trade and how detector tiers change the hunt.
How they appear
Artifacts spawn inside anomaly fields, and you find them with a detector. Detectors come in tiers, and the tier decides how much information you get: a basic detector tells you something is nearby, a better one gives you direction and distance. That difference is not cosmetic — hunting with a weak detector means walking into the anomaly to find out where the artifact is. Anomaly fields respawn artifacts over time, so a route through three known fields is a renewable income source rather than a one-off.
The two-property structure
Most artifacts carry one beneficial property and one drawback. Common patterns:
- A protection or resistance bonus paid for with radiation.
- A physical stat bonus — carrying capacity, stamina, bleed resistance — paid for with a different penalty.
- A clean bonus with no drawback, which is why those are rare and expensive. The practical rule: a radioactive artifact is only free if your suit’s radiation protection covers it. If it does not, you are spending anti-radiation drugs every hour to keep a bonus you could have got from armour.
The ones that change how you play
Carry weight artifacts are the most valuable category in the game for most players, because weight limits what you can loot and how fast you move. A single weight artifact can convert a slow, over-encumbered run into a profitable one — see the weight artifact page for the specifics. Radiation-protection artifacts pay for themselves twice: they cover the radiation from your other artifacts, which lets you stack more of them. Combat artifacts — bleed resistance, health regeneration, physical protection — matter on higher difficulty where a single mutant encounter can end a run.
What to sell
Anything whose drawback costs more than its bonus. A radiation artifact you cannot cover is worth its sale price, not its stat line. The money page covers the trading side, and the armor page covers how artifact slots interact with what you are wearing.
The habit
Keep one loadout configuration and one hunting configuration. Hunt with the detector and an empty artifact container, then swap in the artifacts you actually want before a fight. Carrying everything means carrying radiation you did not budget for.
