STALKER 2 Armor Upgrades: What to Buy and When

Technician upgrades are permanent and expensive. Which ones change survival, which are waste, and why upgrading a suit you will replace is a trap.

Why that matters

Because suits get replaced. An upgraded starting suit is money spent on an item you will leave behind in two regions, and the money does not come back. So the first question is never “which upgrade”, it is “am I keeping this suit for a long stretch”. If the answer is no, repair it and save the upgrade budget.

Which upgrades are worth it

Physical protection. The one that pays out in every fight. If you buy one thing, buy this. Durability. Reduces repair frequency, which is a compounding saving over a long game. It is the least exciting upgrade and one of the best. Radiation or anomaly protection. Situational, and worth it only if you are actually farming anomaly fields. For a player who avoids them, it is money sitting idle. Weight or carrying capacity. Changes what you can bring home, which is an economic upgrade rather than a combat one.

The slot question

Upgrades do not add artifact slots — the suit’s slot count is fixed. So a suit with few slots stays a suit with few slots, no matter how much you spend, and the armour page explains why slots decide a build. That is the argument for upgrading the suit with the best slot count rather than the one with the best raw numbers.

The sequencing

Upgrade in this order: physical protection, then durability, then anything situational. Mechanical protection is the one to skip entirely unless you fight machines more than mutants, because the Zone’s damage is mostly bullets and claws. Stop when the cost of the next tier approaches the cost of a better suit — at that point the money is better spent on the replacement. The repair page covers the maintenance side, and the technician page explains why which technician you use is part of the decision.
