THE FINALS Keeps Crashing on PC: Fix by Symptom

THE FINALS crashing on PC, sorted by when it happens: anti-cheat launch failures, mid-match driver and heat crashes, and post-update breakage.

There are three crash types here, and they have three different causes. Work out which one you have before you start reinstalling anything.

1. It dies before the main menu

You launch, and it collapses on the anti-cheat splash or throws a numeric code. THE FINALS runs Denuvo Anti-Cheat alongside Easy Anti-Cheat, and a failed handshake is the most common launch failure by far. Note the exact code if you get one — that’s what you search with.

Fix in this order:

  1. With the error on screen, open Task Manager, end “Denuvo update server” and the game process, then hit Retry.
  2. Reinstall the anti-cheat from the game’s installers folder: AntiCheatInstaller.exe → uninstall, then reinstall.
  3. Verify game files in Steam.
  4. Close Razer Synapse, Discord overlay, MSI Afterburner and GeForce Experience. Razer software is a repeat offender.
  5. Run Steam and the game as administrator.

2. It crashes mid-match

This is the one people misdiagnose. A crash twenty minutes into a session is almost never file corruption.

  • Update your GPU drivers with a clean install. THE FINALS runs on Unreal Engine 5, and driver bugs show up as mid-session crashes.
  • Cap your frame rate. Uncapped FPS causes driver timeouts on plenty of cards.
  • Watch your temperatures. Sustained GPU heat throttles, then crashes.
  • Drop shadows and post-processing first. They cost the most frames for the least visual loss.
  • Raise your pagefile if you’re running under 16 GB of RAM.

3. It broke right after an update

Fresh patches leave stale files behind. Verify integrity first, then do a clean driver install.

If the crash log mentions EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION, add -dx11 to the Steam launch options. That’s a generic Unreal crash, and forcing DirectX 11 gets a lot of people back into the arena.

When nothing else works, wipe it properly. Uninstall, delete the leftover install folder by hand, then reinstall clean.

Why the timing matters

A crash mid-match isn’t only annoying, it can cost your team the round and land you a deserter penalty. If you’re dropping out of matches regularly, read the crash and reconnect guide before you queue again.

Stability also depends on how hard you’re pushing the GPU — the settings and FPS guide has the performance-side fixes. And if you’re staring at a specific code rather than a silent crash, error codes covers what those actually mean.
