Ground Lineup BR Spread: Beating the Uptier
Stagger battle ratings across your ground vehicles so one unlucky uptier never benches your entire garage.
Your ground lineup has one battle rating, and it is the highest one in it. Queue a vehicle at 4.7 alongside one at 5.7 and the whole lineup fights at 5.7, every match, whether you spawn the 4.7 or not. Most players learn this the hard way: they buy a vehicle they are excited about, watch their carefully built low-BR lineup get dragged into uptiers, and lose money in matches they used to win. The fix is a deliberate BR spread.
How the spread works
| Lineup | Highest vehicle sets the BR | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Three vehicles, all one BR step apart | The top vehicle | Every match is playable, backups survive uptiers |
| Three vehicles, three BR steps apart | The top vehicle | The two lower vehicles are dead weight |
| Two vehicles at the same BR | That BR | No backup when the meta punishes your role |
The goal is not to have the highest BR possible. It is to have every vehicle in the garage playable in the matches the garage actually queues into.
The two-plus-one layout
The standard spread for a working garage:
- Two vehicles at your main BR. Fully modified, different roles. These carry your matches.
- One vehicle one BR step below. Cheaper, still competitive in a downtier, and your fallback when the uptier meta punishes your main.
- Nothing above your main BR. Anything higher is a separate lineup with its own economy, not an “upgrade.”
Why the lower backup matters
Matchmaking will put you one BR above your lineup regularly. When that happens, your modified mid-band vehicles face guns that overmatch their armor. A vehicle one step below is not there to win that match; it is there to keep the match survivable and the repair bill small. What an uptier costs you covers the survival side; why repair costs scale covers the money side.
When to move the whole lineup up
Move the garage up one BR step only when all three conditions hold:
| Condition | Check |
|---|---|
| Both main vehicles are fully modified | Modification screen shows nothing critical left |
| The lineup wins or breaks even at the new BR | Results screen after ten matches |
| The backup vehicle is also viable at the new BR | Or it gets replaced, not just carried |
Moving up one vehicle at a time is how players end up with a 6.7 vehicle dragging a 4.3 backup into matches neither enjoys. The first lineup framework builds this layout from zero, and how BR decides matches explains the matchmaking underneath it.
