Naval Lineup BR Spread: Cover Every Band
Stagger your naval vehicles across BR bands so downtiers stay profitable and uptiers still leave you a playable ship.
A naval lineup has one battle rating, and it belongs to the highest vehicle in it. That rule hurts more in naval than in any other branch, because a naval match is long, committed, and expensive to lose: there is no re-spawning into a better position, and the repair bill for a sunken hull is the largest in the game relative to match length. The spread below is how you keep every vehicle in the garage playable in the matches the garage actually queues into.
Why naval spreads hurt more
| Ground | Naval |
|---|---|
| Death costs one vehicle | Death usually ends your participation |
| Cover is everywhere | Cover is islands, and they can be occupied |
| Short matches, many spawns | Long matches, one commitment |
| Cheap hulls absorb mistakes | Even cheap hulls sink in one bad trade |
The practical consequence: a vehicle one BR step below your main is not a consolation prize. It is the thing that plays your uptiers while your main repairs.
The naval layout
| Slot | Vehicle | Job |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Main, fully modified | Carries matches at its natural BR |
| 2 | Second role at the same BR | A second answer to the enemy composition |
| 3 | Backup one BR step below | Plays uptiers; repairs cheaply; stays viable |
| Nothing | Above your main BR | That is a different lineup with a different economy |
Two vehicles at the main BR and one below is the working shape. Naval vehicles are slow to research and expensive to crew, so a three-vehicle garage beats a five-vehicle museum.
The modification gate
Do not move the lineup up a BR step until the modification screen on the main vehicles shows nothing critical left. A stock hull one BR above a modified one loses the trade that matters, and naval trades end matches. Verify current repair costs in-game before every move, because naval repair bills are the harshest in the game and they scale with the vehicle, not just the BR. Why repair costs scale covers the mechanics.
Playing the uptier deliberately
When the uptier hits, the backup is your vehicle, and the mission changes:
- Fight at the ranges your guns still work at; do not close to their range.
- Use islands to break line of sight between salvos.
- Present the narrowest profile from naval positioning.
- Trade damage for survival; a damaged ship that survives pays better than a sunk hero.
This is the naval version of uptier discipline: the goal in a lost-odds match is to keep the session profitable, not to win it gloriously.
Growth order
Grow the garage one BR step at a time, backup vehicle first, main second, and only after the step below is fully modified. How naval mode plays covers the mode basics before any of this applies.
