ARC Raiders Beginner Guide: Your First Raid, Step by Step

Thirty minutes, one bag, one exit. What to do in the first raid, why the free loadout exists, and the three habits that stop early deaths.

Before you drop

Take the free loadout. It costs nothing, it includes a weapon, ammunition, bandages, a light shield, and a backpack, and it has no safe pocket. For a first raid that is the correct trade: you are there to learn the map, not to make money. Accept quests. The traders in Speranza hand out work, and quest items are then marked on the surface with a diamond icon. It costs a minute and gives the raid a direction — the quest page covers the habit. Pick the starting map. Dam Battlegrounds has no unlock requirement and the lowest difficulty. Stay there until extracting feels routine, then read the map ladder for what opens next.

In the raid

Know your exit first. Find the extraction point before you fill the bag. Extraction takes time to open and the activation is loud, so arriving with a full bag and no idea where the exit is turns a good raid into a loss. Loot one area properly. Sprinting between three half-cleared buildings gets you less than clearing one and leaving. Noise is the main threat in the early game, and every extra building is more noise. Do not fight what you can avoid. ARC machines react to sound and movement, and a fight you did not choose costs ammunition you cannot replace mid-raid. The enemy threat ladder covers which machines to walk away from.

The three habits

Extract early. Most experienced players leave well before the thirty minutes. The last minutes are when everyone converges on the same exits. Use the safe pocket. Anything you cannot lose goes there. It is the one exception to the death rule — see the safe pocket page for what fits and what does not. Spend nothing on gear you cannot replace. A cheap kit you can re-buy keeps you playing; an expensive kit you cannot afford makes you play scared.

The first upgrade

Not a weapon. The workshop benches gate everything else, and the base Workbench cannot be upgraded at all — a mistake that costs new players their first stockpile of materials. The workshop page explains which bench to build and why the answer depends on how your raids are ending. Do ten raids on Dam before worrying about any of it. The loop is the tutorial.
