ARC Raiders Safe Pocket: What Survives Death

The Safe Pocket keeps its items when you are knocked out. How it works, why a Free Loadout has none, and the Safekeeper exception for weapons.

ARC Raiders runs on one harsh rule: get knocked out in a raid and you lose what you are carrying. The Safe Pocket is the single exception to that rule, and learning to use it is the fastest way to stop throwing progress away.

What the Safe Pocket does

Anything placed in a Safe Pocket slot stays with you even if you are eliminated. That makes it the correct home for things you cannot afford to lose: the Raider Hatch Key, rare blueprints, and any quest item you must extract with. Because these slots are small, the decision is about priority, not volume.

Why a Free Loadout has none

A Free Loadout — the no-cost gear preset — comes with no Safe Pocket. If you deploy on a free loadout, nothing you carry is protected; every item is at risk if you go down. New players using free loadouts should treat the entire run as disposable and avoid carrying anything they would miss.

The Safekeeper exception

Normally only non-weapon items fit in a Safe Pocket. The Safekeeper augment changes that by allowing weapons to sit in the safe pocket too. So the common claim “weapons never fit in a Safe Pocket” is only true for players without that augment. Always check which augment is equipped and where the item actually sits rather than assuming.

Unload Backpack no longer touches it

The hub and end-of-raid “Unload Backpack” button moves your non-equipped items into stash in bulk. A past bug could pull keys out of the safe pocket when you used it; as of patch 1.7.0 that is fixed, and keys are no longer removed from the safe pocket by Unload Backpack. Your hatch key stays protected through the bulk move.

Practical habit

Before any risky fight, verify the critical item is actually in the safe pocket, not loose in the backpack. The hatch key guide shows why keeping that key protected changes every raid, and the extract-with rule explains how the safe pocket satisfies quest extraction requirements.
