The October 2026 PvE toggle was a test

From October 13 to 20, 2026, Embark ran a PvE matchmaking toggle beta test. That was a dated experiment, not a permanent PvE-only mode. Treat any “ARC Raiders now has a PvE mode” claim with suspicion unless Embark makes it a standing feature — as of the last check, the core experience remains PvPvE. The mode list in your own menu is the authority here, not an article written during the test week.

What PvPvE means in practice

Other Raiders can cooperate with you or hunt you, and third-party contact at extraction is a real risk that the extraction explained page covers. Sound is your best warning, because both machines and players telegraph through noise. The threat ladder on the enemy page is only half the picture — the human half is the one that ends runs.

How to play around the human threat

You cannot remove other Raiders from the map, but you can reduce contact. Route planning that keeps you off the obvious paths, fighting only when cornered, and extracting early all lower your odds of a third-party. The machine threat on the enemy page is predictable; the human threat is not, which is exactly why sound discipline matters more than raw aim.

A note on history

ARC Raiders was announced in 2021 as a purely PvE co-op shooter and pivoted to extraction in 2023. The PvE roots show in its stealth-flavored pace, but the current game is built around the PvPvE loop described above. The beginner death-loss page is the best starting point for surviving it.
