ARC Raiders Death Penalty: What You Lose and What You Keep
One rule decides your first hours in ARC Raiders: die and you lose what you carry. Here is what is lost, what is kept, and how to fear less.
The rule that decides your first hours in ARC Raiders is blunt: if you are knocked out in a raid, you lose everything you are carrying. Unlike some extraction shooters, though, you do not lose your account. Knowing the exact boundary between what is lost and what is kept is what lets you raid without paralysis.
What you keep
Three things survive a death:
- Permanent skill progress — your skill tree points stay.
- Your Speranza stash — anything stored in the hub is safe.
- Map knowledge — the most valuable currency of your early hours. So a death is a setback to one raid’s gear, not to your character.
What you lose
Everything you deployed with and picked up that raid — your equipped weapon, your armor, your backpack contents — is gone if you go down before extracting. A full backpack you cannot get out with is worth zero.
The first ten raids
Until you know where the exits are, follow five habits:
- Take gear you can afford to lose. Do not deploy your best kit to learn a map.
- Find your extraction before you loot. Knowing where to run beats one extra crate.
- Avoid player fights. Winning takes their backpack; losing costs yours, and the odds are against you early.
- Listen. ARC machines and other Raiders both make noise; in an extraction shooter, sound tells you more than the minimap.
- Leave earlier than you want to. Most losses happen in the last five minutes as everyone heads for the same exits.
Mode choice
Solo is for experienced players; a three-stack is safest but draws more enemies. A duo gives the best balance of calm and learning, which the solo vs duo vs squad page breaks down. Pair that with a protected key in your safe pocket and the extraction basics, and your first raids stop feeling like coin flips.
