BO7 Camo Not Tracking? The Fix and the Real Bugs

Most BO7 camo 'not tracking' reports are mode confusion or a display bug. How 16 mastery camos track per mode, the 3-step fix, and the real bugs.

Nothing winds players up faster than a camo counter stuck at 0/10 after a clean match. In Black Ops 7 the vast majority of these are either mode confusion or a display bug — your progress is usually banked, the client just isn’t drawing it. Here is how tracking actually works and how to get unstuck.

The core fact: 16 mastery camos, tracked per mode

BO7 has 16 mastery camos — four in each of Campaign, Multiplayer, Zombies, and Warzone. This is the single biggest source of “my camo won’t unlock” confusion, because each mode is its own separate challenge ladder on every weapon.

What that means in practice:

  • Camos are tracked per mode, not per weapon. Completing the Multiplayer ladder on a gun does nothing for that gun’s Warzone, Zombies, or Campaign ladder. Each mode is a clean slate.
  • Weapon level ≠ camo. Maxing a weapon unlocks its attachments, not its camos. You can have a fully maxed gun with zero mastery camos. Leveling and camo grinding are two different progress bars.
  • Within a mode, you must finish in order: Military camos → Special camos → Mastery camo. You can’t skip ahead.

So before you assume a bug: confirm you’re grinding the right mode’s challenge and checking the right mode’s tracker. Pull up the pause screen in the mode you want the camo in to see real progress.

The display bug fix (works for most “stuck” counters)

If your counter sits at 0 despite real kills, the fix the community confirms works is a forced client re-sync:

  1. Take the camo off the gun in the weapon customization screen and confirm the change.
  2. Back out to the main menu — don’t just close the loadout; return to the game’s front-end so the change commits.
  3. Hard-close the game completely (full quit, not Quick Resume / Rest Mode / alt-tab) and relaunch.

When it reloads, your real progress usually appears — proof it was tracking in the background all along. One player summed it up: “Remove camo from your gun, restart game, it will then show actual progress.” Re-apply the camo and keep grinding.

Absolute Zero: the Warzone camo that “doesn’t count”

Absolute Zero is the third of four Warzone mastery camos and the single most-complained-about challenge. The in-game text says “get 10 eliminations while in the Top 10 with your chosen weapon” — three quiet filters make it feel broken:

  • Only Top 10 squads count. In a ~50-squad lobby, every early- and mid-game kill is discarded. You often see a real 0/10 after a 10-kill game because none happened in the endgame.
  • It must be an elimination, not a down or assist. You have to confirm the kill.
  • It must be your equipped mastery weapon at the moment of the kill. Swap loadouts mid-match and the kill credits the wrong gun.

The fastest legit route: play Resurgence or a small-map mode so lobbies collapse to the Top 10 far faster, survive first, then farm. Get 10 eliminations yourself in the endgame and it tracks.

The genuine bugs (use a different weapon)

A few real tracking bugs exist, distinct from mode confusion:

  • Crossbows and bows: a confirmed genuine tracking bug freezes their mastery progress. There is no reliable fix — park the weapon and grind another.
  • NX Ravager Top 10: player-reported failure to register Top 10 eliminations. This one is not developer-confirmed, so treat it as unverified and avoid the gun until patched.
  • Legacy MWIII / BO6 weapons in Warzone: a long-standing cross-title camo-tracking desync carried over from the BO6 integration. Keep an eye on Treyarch’s Known Issues board.

Mode-specific gotchas

  • Zombies: some challenges require the gun to come from the Mystery Box, and Endgame-tier challenges only count Special/Elite kills.
  • Warzone: some challenges forbid certain attachments (e.g. sights) — read the challenge text, not just the camo name.
  • Treyarch shortened the grind for BO7: the 9th Military camo needs 80 headshots per weapon in MP (down from 100) and 1,000 critical kills per weapon in Zombies (down from 2,000). Role-based challenges let shotguns count point-blank kills and snipers count one-shot kills instead of headshots.

If a challenge still won’t move after the re-sync fix and you’ve confirmed the mode and conditions, check the official Treyarch Known Issues board or file an Activision Support ticket with screenshots — but in 9 of 10 cases you’re further along than the menu tells you.
