Black Ops 7 Campaign Guide: Solo, Co-op, and Endgame
BO7's campaign is 11 missions built for four players but perfectly playable alone. Learn how to go solo, why it needs internet, and what Endgame is.
Black Ops 7 Campaign Guide: Solo, Co-op, and Endgame
Black Ops 7’s campaign is the first in the series built as a co-op experience first — up to four players — while still being fully playable alone. It is also short, always online, and the only Call of Duty campaign whose progress feeds directly into multiplayer and Zombies.
That combination produces three questions every new player asks. Here are the answers.
How long it actually takes
There are 11 missions: Exposure, Inside, Distortion, Escalation, Disruption, Collapse, Fracture, Quarantine, Suppression, Breakpoint, Containment.
Reviewer playtimes cluster around 4 to 6 hours, with co-op squads finishing faster (some organised groups report just over three) and solo runs landing closer to five or six. Add collectible hunting and you are looking at seven hours or more.
This is short by franchise standards — comparable to the shortest Modern Warfare campaigns rather than the longer Black Ops entries. Plan an evening, not a weekend, unless you intend to explore the open sections.
How to play it solo
Solo is not a reduced mode; it is a menu toggle. In the campaign menu, turn Squad Fill off and the missions launch with just you.
One detail matters more than most guides mention: enemy scaling is tied to player count. You are not facing four-player health pools alone, so solo is genuinely tuned for one person. Some sections are slower because you cannot split objectives, and certain checkpoints are unforgiving — fail a sequence and you may replay more than you expected — but nothing requires a squad.
Two-player split-screen is supported on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. PS4 and Xbox One do not have it.
Yes, it needs an internet connection
Even a completely solo campaign requires a constant connection. The game streams assets as you play, so without a connection it will not start.
This catches people out on laptops and on shared connections. If the campaign refuses to launch while multiplayer works, the cause is usually network-side rather than a corrupt install — the same category of problem covered in our lag and packet loss fix for the online modes.
Difficulty is not the old four-tier ladder
Black Ops 7’s co-op campaign drops the traditional Recruit / Regular / Hardened / Veteran selection. Encounters scale around your player count instead of a difficulty slider.
Practically, that means “harder” is a function of how you play rather than a setting you choose — pushing into optional areas, splitting up, and skipping cover all raise the difficulty more than any menu option would.
Why campaign progress matters
This is the first Call of Duty where the campaign contributes to overall progression. Playing it awards account XP, weapon XP, camo progress, and Battle Pass progress that carry into Multiplayer, Zombies, and Warzone.
The campaign also has its own 16-camo track, so time spent here is not separate from the grind — it is the grind. If you are levelling a weapon and want a change of mode, the campaign does the same job as a multiplayer session. Our weapon levelling guide covers the fastest multiplayer and Zombies routes for comparison.
Endgame, briefly
Finishing the 11 missions unlocks Endgame: a PvE extraction mode set in Avalon for 1 to 32 players in squads of up to four.
It has its own loadout — a primary, a melee weapon, a Field Acquisition, and Field Equipment — plus one Major ability and one Minor ability. Your power is expressed as a Combat Rating that climbs toward 60, and you develop through Skill Tracks: Gunner, Surgeon, Daredevil, Tactician, Berserker, and Bulldozer.
The rule that changes how you play it: dying loses that deployment’s progress. Only a successful exfiltration keeps what you earned. That makes Endgame a risk decision every run, not a campaign continuation.
Story context, no spoilers
It is set in 2035 and continues directly from Black Ops 2, with David Mason leading a JSOC team into the city of Avalon. Raul Menendez returns, and the tech company The Guild sits behind the scenes.
If you have not played Black Ops 2, the campaign still works — but a lot of the payoff is aimed at people who have.
