Black Ops 7 Zombies: How to Turn On Power

On Ashes of the Damned, power is not a single switch. It is a timer-based minigame you repeat at multiple locations, and failing it costs you the round’s momentum rather than just a few points.

Until power is on at the right pumps, you have no Pack-a-Punch, no jump pads, no perk machines and no traps at those locations. That is why the power run is the first thing a competent squad does.

The three pumps, and why you only need two

There are three Power Pumps on the map: Vandorn Farm, Blackwater Lake, and Ashwood.

You only need two powered to unlock Pack-a-Punch — but Ashwood must be one of them, because that is where the garage and the Pack-a-Punch upgrade part sit. Whichever of the other two you skip has to be powered later anyway, because its vending machines and traps stay dead until you do.

In practice, most runs go Janus Towers Plaza → one of the outer locations → Ashwood, then sweep back for the third.

How a pump actually works

Every pump follows the same sequence, and the sequence is the whole difficulty:

  1. Shoot every small orange growth on and around the pump
  2. Then destroy the large growth on top — this one is spongier and needs sustained fire
  3. Flip the switch, which is always somewhere else from the pump itself

The infestation is on a timer that starts when you shoot the first node, and it is short — sources put it at 30 seconds, with at least one guide recording 25. Either way, you cannot clear it slowly, and you cannot clear it while a train is on top of you.

If you fail, the pump goes on cooldown and the growths regenerate. Some accounts say you wait for the next round. That is the real cost: a failed pump does not just waste a minute, it pushes Pack-a-Punch back by a full round while your weapons fall behind the zombie health curve.

Clear the train first, then start shooting nodes. The timer punishes anyone who starts it early.

Each location, specifically

Vandorn Farm. The pump is on the right as you enter the farm area. After clearing it, the barn door costs 1,750 Essence to open, and the switch is on the second floor.

Blackwater Lake. The pump sits to the left of the main house. Clear it, open the cabin for 1,750 Essence, go upstairs and find the switch near the large window.

Ashwood. This is the awkward one. Use a zipline on either side to get up, then budget 2,750 Essence to open every door on the way to the pump, which sits in the middle of a bridge. The switch is on the raised platform beside it.

Plan the Essence before you travel. Arriving at Ashwood with 900 points means you are standing outside a door while the timer resets.

What to bring, and what actually helps

The infestation fight is a crowd-control problem disguised as a shooting problem. Anything that buys you seconds is worth more than extra damage:

  • A Field Upgrade or Point Turret to hold the swarm off your back
  • Molotovs or Semtex to clear nodes in an area faster than bullets can
  • Keep moving — standing still to line up the top growth is how the timer expires

Also useful: you do not have to attempt the pump the moment you arrive. Clearing a round first, then starting the pump, gives you a window before the next wave reinforces.

What power actually unlocks

Once a location is powered, its jump pads come online, which makes crossing the map far faster than driving. Ashwood additionally opens the garage, where Pack-a-Punch becomes available and where Ol’ Tessie’s upgrades are installed — see our Pack-a-Punch guide and the Ol’ Tessie upgrade path for what to do with it.

If you are powering up specifically to chase the main quest, the sequence matters beyond Pack-a-Punch; our Ashes of the Damned main quest breaks down which phases need which prep.

Perk machine locations are covered in Zombies perks, and if you are still choosing a gun for the run, the best weapons starts with what survives past round 20.
