BO7 Combat Specialties: Enforcer, Recon, Strategist Compared

BO7 Combat Specialties trigger from your perk colours. Here are all six — Enforcer, Recon, Strategist, Scout, Tactician, Operative — and which to pick.

In Black Ops 7 you do not just pick perks — the colors you pick decide a bonus called a Combat Specialty. This is the BO6 system returning with a twist: you can now mix colors for hybrid bonuses instead of being locked to three of the same. Here is how it is decided and which to run.

How specialties are decided

Every perk is color-coded:

  • Offense — red
  • Support — green
  • Stealth — blue

Then the rule is:

  • Three perks of the same color → a Core specialty.
  • Two of one color plus one of another (any mix) → a Hybrid specialty.

With the Perk Greed Wildcard you get a fourth perk slot, but your specialty is still decided by the first three slots — the extra perk does not change it.

Core specialties

SpecialtyRequirementWhat it does
Enforcer3 red (Offense)After each elimination, a short buff to movement speed and health-regen speed.
Recon3 blue (Stealth)On respawn, see the direction of the closest enemy on the minimap; HUD edge pulses for off-screen enemies; leave no death skulls.
Strategist3 green (Support)Increased score for objectives and sabotage; deploy equipment faster; briefly see enemy equipment through walls.

Hybrid specialties

SpecialtyColorsWhat it does
Scoutred + blueAfter a bullet elimination, stay hidden from enemy minimaps for 5 seconds; further kills reset the timer.
Tacticianred + greenWhen you earn an assist, gain bonus score from bullet eliminations for 10 seconds.
Operativeblue + greenStealth eliminations (suppressed weapons, melee, or out-of-sight kills) recharge your Field Upgrade.

This is the headline change from BO6: instead of “all same color or nothing,” BO7 lets you keep one color’s identity and grab a second benefit from a different color.

Which to pick

  • Aggressive slayers → Enforcer (red) or Scout (red + blue) for kill-chaining value.
  • Objective and team players → Strategist (green) or Operative (blue + green).
  • Map awareness and revenge kills → Recon (blue).
  • Assist-heavy roles (support guns, scorestreak support) → Tactician (red + green).

The best combo depends on mode and your role. Hybrids are strong because they let you cover two needs at once — for example Scout rewards consistent kills with stealth, which pairs well with flank angles.

How this fits the loadout

Your perk colors share the loadout with your equipment and overclocks. See our BO7 Loadout Guide for the full slot breakdown, and our BO7 Weapons List if you are pairing a build with a specific gun. If you came here from the Overclock system, note perks never get overclocks — they get specialties, covered here.
