How to Get a Nuke in Black Ops 7

The Nuke is Black Ops 7’s match-ending superweapon and the biggest flex in the multiplayer. It is a hidden killstreak: it never appears in your scorestreak slots, you cannot buy it with score, and you cannot equip it. It simply becomes available the instant you hit the kill threshold.

The Requirement: 30 Kills in One Life

You need 30 consecutive kills without dying. This is a pure killstreak in a single life, not a match total and not a score total — die at 29 and the counter resets to zero. BO7 keeps the modern 30-kill standard used by Black Ops 6, Black Ops Cold War, and Modern Warfare (2019), rather than the easier 25-kill nuke from Modern Warfare 2.

What Counts Toward the Streak (and What Doesn’t)

Only your own kills count. Specifically:

  • Counts: kills with primary and secondary weapons, lethal equipment like grenades, and Field Upgrades.
  • Does Not Count: kills from other scorestreaks and vehicles.

That last point is where most near-misses die. You can absolutely use a Watchdog Helo or VTOL Warship to control the map and funnel enemies where you want them, but their kills will not move your counter. Treat streaks as crowd control, not as progress.

Medal Checkpoints: 20, 25, 30

BO7 tracks your climb with Dark Ops medals, and they are the easiest way to know where you stand without counting:

MedalRequirement
Relentless Killer20 kills without dying
Brutal Killer25 kills without dying
Nuclear Killer30 kills without dying

When the Brutal Medal flashes at the top of your HUD, you are at 25. Five more kills and the Nuclear Badge appears, and the hidden Tactical Nuke becomes available on the left side of your screen. Hitting 30 completes the Nuclear Killer Dark Ops challenge and its calling card at the same moment. See our hardest achievements guide for where it sits among the game’s toughest unlocks.

How to Actually Survive to 30

The requirement is simple to understand and brutal to execute, so the practical advice is about reducing risk rather than about raw aim:

  • Play small maps. Nuketown and other compact maps keep the engagement rate high, so you reach 30 before the lobby settles into a stalemate.
  • Control spawns. Learn where enemies come from rather than chasing the last kill across open ground.
  • Run a self-sufficient build. A suppressed weapon and a Field Upgrade you can rely on matter more than a high-risk high-reward setup. Check our meta loadouts for builds that hold up in long streaks.
  • Play the edges, not the middle. Rotating along the map’s outside keeps one side of you safe.
  • Bank the easy medals first. Getting to 20 cleanly is the hard part; from there you are playing for five more.

What Happens When You Activate It

Once you activate the Nuke, a countdown starts for every player in the match with a siren cue. When the timer hits zero, operators on the map are killed regardless of team, and the match ends in your favor. It is one of the few ways to end a game outright, which is why it is treated as the ultimate skill flex.

Common Mistakes

  • Assuming scorestreak kills count toward the 30 — they do not.
  • Pushing for kill 26 with no information just because the Brutal Medal appeared.
  • Chasing the last few kills across open ground instead of holding a safe lane.
  • Forgetting that one death at any point resets everything.
