Black Ops 7 XP: One Pool, Three Climbs, and Fast Grinding
BO7 uses one unified XP pool across every mode. How the rank, 10 Prestiges, and Prestige Master 1000 ladder works, what resets, and the fastest XP modes.
The single most important rule in Black Ops 7 progression is this: there is one XP pool. XP from Multiplayer, Zombies, Co-Op Campaign, and Warzone all feed the same military rank. You don’t grind modes separately — you play whichever mode you personally score best in.
The three climbs
Your account level is a three-stage ladder stacked on top of each other:
- Military rank 1 to 55. Earn XP in any mode to climb from Private I to Commander. Hitting 55 is the max base level and unlocks the choice to Prestige.
- 10 Prestiges. Choosing to Prestige resets your rank to 1 and relocks your level unlocks, then you grind 55 levels again. Each Prestige also hands you one Permanent Unlock token — 10 in total.
- Prestige Master, 56 to 1,000. Finish all 10 Prestiges and you enter Prestige Master, where your level finally climbs past 55 all the way to 1,000 and nothing relocks again.
What resets and what stays
- Resets: your player level (back to 1) and every Level Unlock — weapons, equipment, perks, wildcards, scorestreaks — relocks and must be re-earned.
- Stays: weapon progression, camos, reticles and builds; challenge progress and Mastery Badges; Operators and Emotes; anything from the Store, Battle Pass, or with a Blueprint or skin (a gun you own a Blueprint for stays usable even while its base unlock is relocked).
- Permanent Unlock tokens: spend each on any one Level Unlock item so it never relocks. The standard advice is to spend them on a Field Upgrade, Wildcard, or Perk rather than a gun, because guns come back through Blueprints anyway. You can use a token from the Level Unlocks menu any time before Prestige Master.
Fastest XP modes
“Optimal” mode lists mean nothing if you go negative — play where you actually produce score. For raw account XP, Zombies and Endgame are the most time-efficient for most players thanks to steady kills and no dead time; objective Multiplayer (Hardpoint, Domination, Kill Confirmed) is fastest if you hold a positive K/D, because tags, captures, defenses, and assists all add score; Warzone carries a built-in XP boost; and small-map moshpits are ideal for dumping Double XP tokens.
Weapon Prestige is separate
Weapon progression is per-weapon and independent of your account rank. After a weapon hits its max level, Weapon Prestige becomes available (it returns in BO7 for the first time since Black Ops 4), offering its own camo rewards. If your goal is camos rather than account level, see our camo challenges guide and the weapon prestige guide for where the two systems meet.
