Destiny 2 location names: the main destinations

The Director is a wall of place names. This breaks the main Destiny 2 destinations into groups so you know where to go.

The Director throws a grid of names at you, and half of them mean nothing on day one. There are three kinds of places you will see.

Hub worlds

These are where you manage your Guardian. The Tower is the main social space, sitting inside the Last City, and it holds the vault, vendors, and the Monument to Lost Light. You land here after most story beats.

Patrol destinations

These are the open planets with public events, bounties, and loose exploration. Examples that have appeared over the game’s life include the EDZ, Nessus, the Moon, Europa, and Neomuna. Which ones are live changes as content rotates with expansions.

Activity spaces

These launch from the Director but are not free roam. Raids, dungeons, the Crucible, Gambit, and Strikes all live here. You queue in, you play the mode, you leave.

The trick is not memorizing names. It is knowing which bucket a name falls into, because that tells you what you can do there.

Some destinations leave the game when their expansion cycles out, then return later. If a name from an old guide is missing, that is usually why. Check the Director’s current map rather than trusting a screenshot.

The Director itself is worth learning. Zoom and filter it to hide modes you ignore, and the wall of names gets manageable fast. Seasonal destinations appear only while their content is active, then leave the map, so a “missing” planet is often just retired.

Plan around the buckets, not the names. A raid is a raid whether it sits on the Moon or in its own node, and the same is true for every patrol zone. Once you think in categories, the map stops being overwhelming.

New players should start in the hubs and one patrol zone. The beginners guide maps out a sane first week. The new light first steps guide covers the early path. The campaign order guide shows what to tackle next.
