Destiny 2 Tower Guide: Your First Steps
The Tower is Destiny 2's hub: Banshee-44, Zavala, Shaxx, Drifter, Xur on weekends, the Vault, and the Postmaster. Learn it early.
You finish the intro and stand in the Tower with no idea where to walk. Every NPC looks the same, and the map throws a dozen activities at you. Learning the hub first saves hours of lost time.
Learn the Tower layout first
The Tower is Destiny 2’s social and vendor hub. Almost every early upgrade passes through it, so treat it as home base rather than a loading screen.
Banshee-44 and the activity vendors
Banshee-44 sells weapon bounties and ranks up as you turn in guns. His daily and weekly bounties are a steady XP and gear source. Visit him every session.
Zavala runs Vanguard Strikes and the seasonal Vanguard playlist. Shaxx runs Crucible, the PvP mode. Drifter runs Gambit, the PvE-and-invade mode. Each gives bounties that point you at their activity.
Xur and weekend vendors
Xur appears only on weekends, Friday to Tuesday. He sells an Exotic weapon and an Exotic armor piece per class, plus an Engram. If you log in on a weekend, check him first — his rolls change and you may never see the same one again.
Vault and Postmaster basics
The Vault is your long-term storage. Gear you are not using but want to keep goes here. Space is limited, so our vault management guide explains what to save.
The Postmaster holds items you earned but did not pick up, like mail. Check it before it fills, or you will lose rewards. New players lose gear this way more than any other.
Grab bounties before you queue
Grab daily bounties before you queue for anything. They give XP, glimmer, and a goal. Stack a few, then run the activity they point to.
Speak to every vendor once. The game explains itself through their menus, and you will know who to return to later. Our beginner guide ties this into your first quest.
Learn the Tower early and every later session starts with purpose instead of confusion.
