How to delete loadouts in Destiny 2 without losing gear
Deleting a saved loadout is safe and your weapons and armor stay put. Here is where the button hides and what actually happens.
Most players fear that hitting delete will vaporize their favorite gun. It will not, and that misunderstanding costs people hours of rebuilds.
A loadout is a preset, not the gear
A loadout is only a saved preset. It remembers which weapons and armor you slotted, plus mods and subclass. The gear itself lives in your inventory or your vault, completely separate from the preset.
Deleting the preset removes the shortcut. It does not touch the items. You can rebuild the same setup in seconds because nothing was dismantled.
The thing that actually deletes gear is dismantling from your inventory. That is a different button, with its own confirm prompt, and it is the one to watch. Clearing a loadout never triggers it.
Deleting from the Loadouts panel
To delete a loadout, open your character screen and open the Loadouts panel. Pick the one you want gone and choose delete. The preset disappears; your equipment does not move.
If you share an account or play on multiple characters, double-check which loadout you select. Names can look similar once you have a long list, and there is no undo for the preset itself.
What deleting removes: mods and subclass
Keep your real gear safe by managing where it lives. The presets themselves have a limit, so pruning old ones keeps the useful ones easy to find. If you only want to tidy up, rename a preset instead of deleting it.
Saved mods and your subclass are part of the preset, not your gear, so they vanish with the delete too. That is harmless, because you reapply them in seconds from your inventory.
Shared accounts show the same loadouts only across characters of one class. A Titan preset will not appear on your Warlock, so keep names clear to avoid grabbing the wrong one. When in doubt, keep the preset. You lose nothing by leaving it.
