Destiny 2 Grandmaster Nightfall Guide: Mods, Grades, Rewards
Grandmaster Nightfalls now run in the Fireteam Ops hub. Entry rules, champion and Match Game mods, grades, and the weekly GM Alert explained
Grandmaster is the hardest Nightfall tier in Destiny 2, and it works differently now. The standalone Nightfall tile is gone. Everything lives in the Fireteam Ops hub on the Director, and you launch Grandmaster as a difficulty option there.
Entry requirements
Matchmaking covers Expert through Grandmaster. You need Power 300 to enter, which is also the current gear cap. Artifact levels push you past that toward the 550 hard cap, but extra Power does not soften a Grandmaster. Bungie built the tier so execution matters, not overleveling.
What makes Grandmaster hard
Three systems define the tier:
- Champions. Barrier, Unstoppable, and Overload champions appear constantly. You need the matching anti-champion mods from the seasonal artifact, and you need them equipped before the run.
- Match Game. Enemy shields take massively reduced damage unless your subclass element matches. Bring a loadout that covers every element in the strike.
- Extinguish. One death wipes the whole fireteam. There is no “just res me” in a Grandmaster.
A clean run takes 20 to 35 minutes. A learning run with matchmade teammates can stretch past an hour, because every wipe resets the encounter.
The weekly Grandmaster Alert
The featured Grandmaster Vanguard Alert runs every week and usually disables matchmaking. Bring a premade. Any clear at B grade or better pays a pre-masterworked featured weapon with a unique origin trait. Regular Grandmaster clears still drop Adept weapons, one of the few remaining sources alongside Trials, featured raid challenges, and Pantheon.
A roster that works
The classic setup is one anchor, one damage dealer, and one flex. Titans run Sentinel with Loreley Splendor Headgear for constant overshields. Warlocks run Dawnblade with Well of Radiance. The flex handles champion coverage and add clear. Hunters with Nightstalker invisibility cover revives and orb generation.
If you are learning, say so in your LFG post. Plenty of sherpas run Grandmasters every week. Our LFG guide covers the wording that gets you invited.
Grandmaster prep mistakes that end the run
- Entering without the artifact anti-champion mods equipped.
- Bringing single-element subclasses into Match Game weeks.
- Treating Grandmaster like a harder Strike. It is an execution test with one-life rules.
Grandmaster modifiers rotate weekly, and the modifiers guide explains what each one does to your loadout; the Nightfalls page covers the tiers below it.
