Destiny 2 Vault Management: Stop the Clutter

Destiny 2's Vault fills fast. Compare Power, stats, and perks before dismantling, and keep one of every weapon type you like.

Your Vault hits capacity and a red warning tells you to make space. Most players panic-dismantle, then regret it days later. The Vault is Destiny 2’s most famous pain point, and a simple system tames it.

What the Vault is for

The Vault is shared storage for weapons and armor you are not equipping. It is generous but not infinite, so manage it on purpose rather than in a crisis.

How to decide what to dismantle

Compare before you scrap. Look at Power first, then stats, then perks. A higher Power piece may still lose to a better-rolled one at your level. Read the perks, not just the number.

Keep one example of every weapon and armor type you enjoy. That way you always have a base to build from when a new activity favors a different range or role. Our weapon slots guide explains the ranges to plan around.

Do not auto-dismantle everything the game flags as lower. The game cannot see your plans. A “weak” roll today might fit a build you invent next week.

Use tags and notes if your client supports them. Mark keepers, mark “dismantle after X”, and review weekly. A five-minute sort beats a frantic purge.

How infusion saves you space

Infusion lets you raise a favorite piece to your current Power using spares. So keeping one strong base is better than hoarding ten near-duplicates.

Check the Postmaster too. Items left there expire and vanish, a common early loss.

Why a weekly review works

Treat the Vault as a curated shelf, not a dump. Our common mistakes guide covers the scrap-happy habit to avoid.

Review the Vault weekly rather than only when the warning appears. A calm sort beats a panic purge every time. If a piece is within a few Power of your best, keep it until you confirm a replacement. Space is a plan, not a crisis.

Compare Power, stats, and perks before you dismantle, and keep one of every type you like — your future builds will thank you.
