Tarkov Season Modifiers: Global, Personal and Points

Kord Breach modifiers shape a Seasonal Character at creation. Global ones hit everyone; personal ones use points where debuffs fund buffs. How it balances.

The modifier system is the first real strategic decision you make in a Tarkov season, and it happens before you ever load a raid. It is also the feature that most resembles an ARPG league, which is the clear inspiration for the design.

Global Modifiers

Global Modifiers are season rules that alter, simplify, or increase the difficulty of specific gameplay elements. They apply to every Seasonal Character, are enabled for all players in the season, and cannot be changed, disabled, or selected individually. Each new season features a different set, and the active list is shown during Seasonal Character creation. These are the rules everyone in the season lives under, like the insurance-off rule that defines the seasonal realm.

Personal Modifiers

Personal Modifiers are optional and let you customize your own progression. At creation you choose from both positive and negative modifiers, each carrying a point value:

  • Negative modifiers grant points — these are the harder rules you voluntarily take.
  • Positive modifiers consume points — these are the conveniences or power picks you buy. The final point balance must be zero or higher to create the character. You can also create a character with no Personal Modifiers at all and just play straight. The hardcore end of the pool is where the brutal self-imposed challenges live, for players chasing difficulty over comfort.

Where they show up

Once the character is created, your selected modifiers are visible on the Character screen under the Skills tab. Because they lock in for the whole season, the pick is a commitment, not a mid-run toggle. Because the points balance must stay at zero or above, a buff you want may require accepting a debuff you can live with, which is the core tension of building a seasonal run. Plan the character around the debuff, not against it. The seasonal character page covers the insurance and economy context, and the Kord Breach overview explains where modifiers sit in the wider season design.
