Helldivers 2 Medals: The 250 Cap and How to Earn Fast
Medals cap at 250 and only operations pay the sequence bonus. Why chaining missions inside one operation beats farming single drops.
Where medals come from
Four sources, and they are not equal. Mission completion pays a flat amount that rises with difficulty. Operation completion pays again, and pays more because completing missions in sequence inside a single operation carries a bonus. Points of interest hide medal stacks in containers. Orders — personal and major — pay on top. The stack in a container is special: picking one up credits every Helldiver in the mission immediately, no extraction required. A squad that walks past a container leaves medals behind permanently.
The sequence bonus is the whole farm
Two players with the same playtime end up hundreds of medals apart because of how they queue. A difficulty 7 operation is three missions; finishing all three pays the per-mission medal plus the sequence bonus. Dropping into one mission, extracting, and re-queueing gets the first payment and forfeits the second. That means the efficient medal farm is not “the highest difficulty I can survive” but “the highest operation I can finish all three missions of”. A clean difficulty 6 operation beats a scrappy difficulty 9 where you abandon the third mission. The difficulty table shows where each tier’s medal payout flattens out — past Helldive the per-operation total stops climbing while the risk keeps going.
Orders pay for showing up
Personal orders are daily and short. Major orders are community-wide and pay every player whether or not they logged in during the window, which makes them the cheapest medals in the game: you get paid for the community’s work. The major order page covers how the deadline and the reward structure work.
What to do at the cap
Reaching 250 with two Warbonds half-finished wastes the next 200 medals you earn. The fix is not to hoard: buy the cheap entries — armor, capes, player cards — on tracks you have already opened, which clears pages toward the 300-medal thresholds without spending the medals you are saving. Check the number before every session. The cap is announced in the interface but never explained, which is why so many players discover it after a weekend of high-difficulty grinding.
