What each tier adds

Tier 3 introduces the first genuinely armored bugs. Tier 4 is where Chargers and Hulks appear, and tier 4 is the wall most players hit — not because the enemies are tougher, but because the starter kit has no answer to armor and the game has not yet handed you one. Tier 5 brings Bile Titans and Impalers. Tier 6 is where super samples start dropping. Tier 7 adds Factory Striders. Tier 8 adds Alpha Commanders. Tier 10 adds Super Heavy outposts — Mega Nests and Fortresses — plus a heavier baseline spawn.

Why tier 10 is a planning problem, not a shooting problem

Past tier 8 the numbers stop moving much: sample counts flatten, medal payouts cap, and the enemy roster is already complete. What tier 9 and 10 add is map structure. A Mega Nest is a dense objective with its own internal spawn pressure, and a Fortress is a multi-stage fight that eats a stratagem loadout before the main objective even starts. That changes the route, not the aim. The squad that clears tier 10 is the one that plans which outpost it will skip rather than the one that shoots straighter.

Where the reward curve bends

Medals are what most players chase, and they cap at 40 per operation around tier 9 while the XP multiplier keeps climbing toward +300%. If you are farming medals, tier 7 is close to the efficient ceiling. If you are farming XP for rank, higher tiers keep paying. Samples are the opposite: the rare and super counts keep rising all the way to the top, which is why a difficulty 9 run is the standard for anyone still upgrading ship modules. The tier that suits you is the highest one you can clear without burning more than two or three reinforcement tickets — the reinforce budget page explains why ticket count is a better readiness test than completion.

The modifier table matters more than the tier number

Two mission modifiers can be worse than one tier of difficulty. Stratagem jammers, AA defences and reduced stratagem slots each attack the thing that carries you through high difficulty, and the jammer page covers what to do when the loadout stops working.
