Helldivers 2 Vehicle Aggro: Empty Vehicles Draw Fire

Update 6.3 gave vehicles armor classes and made unoccupied ones draw enemy aggro — a trap for players who assumed empty vehicles were scenery.

The old behavior

Before the mid-2026 patches, a vehicle such as the Exosuit or a parked Emancipator was effectively background scenery until a Helldiver climbed inside. Enemies ignored it, and it ignored them.

What changed in Update 6.3

Two things:

  • Vehicles got real armor classes instead of a flat health bar. That means the armor penetration guide now applies to vehicles too — a light-penetration weapon that used to chip a vehicle may now ricochet off its plating.
  • Unoccupied vehicles draw enemy aggro. A vehicle sitting empty can pull fire and attention, so leaving your Exosuit parked in the open can now start a fight you did not intend.

Practical implications

Treat a deployed vehicle as a live object even when empty. Park it where it will not attract a patrol you are trying to avoid, and when you do ride one, respect its armor class when shooting back at it is not the goal — the point is that enemies now respect its armor. For understanding what actually penetrates the new vehicle plating, the weak-point logic on the enemy armor values page is the same framework to apply.

Using the change to your advantage

An empty vehicle that draws aggro can act as a decoy — park a spare Exosuit between a patrol and your objective to pull fire away. Conversely, do not leave your own ride exposed where it will start a fight you are not ready for. When you do ride, remember the new armor class means your vehicle’s plating follows the same AV rules as enemy parts.
