Hunt Showdown Beginner Guide: The Loop Before the Fights
New players lose to the objective, not the gunfights. Clues, the banish, the bounty carrier rule, and why the first ten hours feel unfair.
The loop
A Bounty Hunt match has four steps. Find clues. Kill the boss. Banish it. Extract with the bounty token. Clues are scattered across the map. Three of them identify the boss lair, and each one you interact with makes noise and takes a moment during which you are not watching your surroundings. That is the trade: information for vulnerability. The boss is a PvE fight that most players can win. It is not the hard part. The banish is the hard part. Banishing takes time and announces to the entire server that this compound is now the most valuable place on the map. Every team that was undecided is now decided. Extraction is where the second fight happens, because a team holding the bounty can be tracked, and the exits are known.
The bounty carrier rule
Whoever picks up the token becomes visible to nearby teams through Dark Sight, briefly and repeatedly. That is the mechanic that turns a won boss fight into a lost match: the squad that grabs the token without a plan becomes a moving target with a beacon. The habit that fixes it: pick a carrier before the banish finishes, choose the exit before you pick up, and leave immediately. Standing in the compound admiring a kill is how most first bounties are lost.
Sound is the whole game
Every action has a radius and a direction. Crows, horses, and breaking branches all announce you; gunfire announces you further; a firefight is an invitation. This is why Hunt players walk more than they run, and why the sound trap page is worth reading before your second match. If you learn one thing in your first week, learn to stop making noise you did not intend to make.
What to do with your first hunter
Take the free hunter. Do not spend money on gear you cannot afford to lose, because you will lose it. The money page explains the economy, and the honest summary is that dying with expensive gear is how new players go broke and conclude the game is unfair. Play Bounty Hunt, follow the clues, and accept that most early matches will end with you dead. The boss guide covers the PvE side, and the death positioning page covers the habit that keeps you alive long enough to learn anything else.
