Hunt Death by Positioning: Peek Angles and Cover

The second death mode is positional — bad peeks, bright silhouettes and cover used wrong. Part 2 of the four-mode series, with audio, timing and loadout.

Mistake 1: the bright silhouette

Hunt’s lighting is merciless. Standing in a doorway against a lit skybox, on a ridge at dawn, or in front of a burning building paints you as a target. The fix is to keep a dark background behind you and break your outline with foliage or terrain. Most “I got sniped out of nowhere” deaths are just a clean silhouette someone was already watching.

Mistake 2: peeking the same angle twice

Hunt rewards patience, and the player who holds one window eventually gets punished by someone who watched them peek it. Vary your peek lines, and never re-peek the exact spot you were just shot from without a reason — the enemy’s crosshair is already there. This is doubly true in 2.9, where hidden extractions mean you may be holding an angle longer than usual while deciding a route.

Mistake 3: cover used as a wall, not a tool

A wall stops bullets but also blocks your view and funnels you into a known lane. Good cover lets you break line of sight, reposition sideways, and re-engage from a new angle. Dying “behind cover” usually means you were pinned to it instead of using it to reset the fight.

Mistake 4: holding the compound center

The bounty compound draws every team, and the center of it is the most contested real estate on the map. Holding the edges and letting others commit to the middle is almost always safer than planting yourself where three teams are already looking.

Mistake 5: extracting exposed

Extraction freezes its countdown when contested, so standing in the open at the point is an invitation. Use the Scouting Map and Spyglass knowledge to pick an extraction with a single approach, then hold cover through the thirty seconds.

How to drill it

Pair this with the solo route guide: a solo hunter has no partner watching the angle they forgot, so positional discipline is the only thing replacing that missing set of eyes. Name your death by the position you held, and the next fight starts from better ground.
