Hunt Showdown Team Comms: Three Calls That Win Fights
Voice chat in Hunt is mostly noise. Three short calls cover almost everything, and silence is the fourth thing a team needs.
The three calls
Contact, with a direction and a distance. “One, north, forty metres, in the barn.” That is enough for a teammate to make a decision. “I see someone” is not. Chunk state. “I am on one chunk” changes what the team can attempt. It is the single most useful piece of information in a fight and the one nobody volunteers — the revive page explains why it matters so much. Intent. “I am pushing left” or “I am leaving”. Announcing what you are about to do stops teammates shooting into your back and stops them assuming support that is not coming.
What to stop saying
Narrating your aim. “I am shooting at him” adds nothing; the gunfire already said it. Repeating the same information. Three people calling the same contact in the same second buries the call that matters. Speculation as fact. “He is probably rotating” is a guess. Say “I heard footsteps west” and let the squad interpret.
Silence has a function
When you are listening, nobody should be talking. A team that keeps up a running commentary cannot hear the thing that would have won the fight — footsteps, a banish starting, an animal trap. The practical rule for a squad: talk to transmit information, then be quiet. Most fights are won by the team that heard the other one first, and an open mic is a self-inflicted disadvantage.
The pre-fight call
Before entering a compound, one player should state the plan in a sentence: who goes first, which side the others take, and where the exit is if it goes wrong. That single sentence is worth more than any amount of tactical discussion mid-fight, because mid-fight nobody has time to plan — which is why the compound defense page puts the plan before the fight rather than during it.
