Hunt Showdown Melee: The Tool You Always Bring

Melee is not a backup weapon, it is how you deal with the map quietly. Which melee to carry and when swinging is better than shooting.

Why melee matters

It is silent. Shooting an AI enemy announces your position to the server. A knife does not. On a map where information decides fights, killing quietly is worth more than killing fast. It saves ammunition. Every round you spend on a dog is a round not available for the fight that matters, and ammunition is weight. It is a movement tool. Many melee weapons also break obstacles, open crates, and cut through fences. The game’s traversal assumes you have one.

The options

Knife or bayonet type. Fast, light, low damage. The correct default: it kills AI quickly, costs almost no weight, and never gets in the way. Heavy melee weapons. Slower swings, much more damage, and some of them can kill a player in one hit. The trade is weight and a wind-up that a good player will punish. Weapon-mounted melee. Attacking with the gun’s stock. Slower and weaker than a dedicated tool, and free — which is why some players skip the tool entirely and regret it.

When to swing instead of shoot

AI that has not noticed you. Always melee. The silence is the point. A player who is reloading at close range and has not seen you. A melee kill is silent and does not spend a bullet — but only if you are already close enough, which is the rare case. Anything at range. Never. Melee is a contact tool and walking into fire to use it is how you lose a hunter.

The weight argument

A heavy melee weapon is a real slot cost and a real speed cost. On a build that needs to move — a solo, or a bounty carrier — the light tool is strictly better. On a build that intends to fight inside buildings, the heavy option earns its weight. That calculation is the same one the cheap loadouts page makes for weapons, and the tools page covers the rest of the slot economy.
