KCD2 Hardcore Tips: Which Perks to Pick and Survive

KCD2 Hardcore is best tried after a Standard run. Learn Master Strike, save manually, and take the mildest three perks: Sweaty, Picky Eater, Hangry Henry.

Do a Standard run first

The single most repeated piece of advice — echoed by PowerPyx and others — is to finish the story on Standard first. Hardcore assumes you already know where things are, because there are no waypoints to fall back on. A clean Standard playthrough also teaches you the toughest combat encounters so they are not surprises later.

Learn Master Strike before anything else

Master Strike is the counter that turns melee from a war of attrition into a manageable duel, and it is essential for surviving the Zizka duel and every later fight. Learn it from the combat teacher at the Nomad Camp early. Without it, every Hardcore fight is longer and deadlier.

Save like your life depends on it

There is no autosave in Hardcore. Save manually with Saviour Schnapps or Save and Exit before every risky fight, every quest turn, and every time you enter a new town. Because the mode also removes the player marker, getting lost and dying to random bandits is a real risk — a fresh save is your only safety net.

Which three perks to pick

TheGamer ranks the perks by harshness; the three mildest are Sweaty, Picky Eater, and Hangry Henry. None of them make combat harder, so they are the safest route to Hardcore Henry II. Avoid Punchable Face unless you have mastered combat — it makes every enemy stronger and adds 10% damage taken, which compounds badly in long fights. Save Against All Odds (all ten perks) for a separate, carefully planned run.

Lean on landmarks and NPCs

With no marker, navigate by rivers, roads, and village layouts. You can ask passers-by for directions — unless you took Bashful, which removes that option, so think twice before picking it. Plan for roughly 20 to 30 hours if you already know the game.

Tie it together

The Hardcore Mode perks page lists every perk effect, and the points of no return page matters more here than ever, because with no autosave a missed side quest before Oratores is gone for good.
